Life Teen Christmas Break + Schedule

Hi Everyone!

Thank you all for a great year of Life Teen, you are truly appreciated.

This is a friendly reminder that Life Teen will help serve the meal for
the poor
at St. Vinnie's on Wednesday, January 2nd 2013, Please help from 3:30pm to
6pm if you can. I will not be able to go due to a work conflict, but
Dennis Boucher and Judy Gachnang will be there.

Please let me know if you would like to help serve - and feel free to
invite a friend to help!

Also, on January 9th we will not meet at Sacred Heart, but at Our Lady of
Peace from 6:30-8:30pm for the Bodies+Boundaries presentation by Jeff
Arrowood. Please note this is two hours long rather than one hour long.

Life Teen to Serve St. Vinnie's Meal on January 2nd!

Hi Everyone!

A friendly reminder that Life Teen will help serve the meal for the poor
at St. Vinnie's on Wednesday, January 2nd. We will serve the meal rather
than have our regular youth group meeting that night.

Environment" from the Diocese. Parents are welcome to attend, and this

Life Teen Update

Hi everyone,
I hope you are having a blessed Advent. Next week, on Wednesday

Next Wednesday, Life Teen Field Trip!

Hi everyone,
The Immersion retreat was great, if you missed it, you missed out! At
the Immersion Retreat we met another youth group from St. Paul's in
Mosinee. I had a good talk with Sue Breit, their leader. They have a
simple format of discussion and dialogue, and I would like to visit
them for a meeting just to observe and learn.

I know this is short notice, but I would like to do this next Wednesday,
because it is the night before Thanksgiving, so there is no school the
next day. We would need to leave Sacred Heart at 5:30pm, and would
return to Sacred Heart by 9:30pm. I'm assuming an hour drive each way,
and their meeting is two hours long. Let me know if this would work for
you, I understand completely if this is too much time on a Wednesday
night. This is the address of the Church below. There would be no cost
for this trip, and I would be driving. If you would like to go, I will
need pages two and three of the release form signed. I have all your
page one's from the Immersion Retreat, so you won't need to do that one
again. However you will need to do it if you did not go to Immersion.
In that case, do all three pages.

Life Teen Wednesday, Immersion retreat this weekend

Hi everyone,
Just a quick reminder that we will meet at 6:15pm tomorrow night
Wednesday. This weekend is the Immersion retreat, and the time to meet
the bus Saturday morning at Sacred Heart is still being finalized. I am
predicting it will be between 7 and 9am Saturday morning. I still need

Life Teen is cancelled tomorrow, on Halloween

Hi everyone, sorry I didn't let you know sooner, but Life Teen is
cancelled tomorrow on Halloween. We typically follow the Religious
Education schedule. However you are encouraged to attend Mass on November
1st, All Saints Day, which is a Holy Day of Obligation. At Sacred Heart
the Mass will be at 6pm on Thursday, and at Corpus Christi it will be at
7pm. We will resume Life Teen next week, on November 7th. Thanks Patrick
for the email, Mandy will just call Sierra to let her know then.

Life Teen: Volunteer for the live nativity at Rotary Winter Wonderland

Life Teen: Oktoberfest this Sunday, Immersion, March for Life

Hi everyone!
This Sunday is Oktoberfest. I have Michele, Patrick, and Sierra down
to help with the kids games, please meet at the Knights of Columbus hall
at Noon this Sunday to help.
The Immersion retreat is coming up fast, on November 10th and 11th.

return paperwork and payment at your earliest convenience.

In January next year (2013) there will be a trip to the March for
Life in Washington D.C. It will be January 23rd through 27th

This is a trip Pattie Pflugradt has taken and she highly recommends it.
Students would take part in the yearly March for life, as well as do
sightseeing in Washington D.C. The students would need to take 2 and
1/2 days off of school since they leave Wednesday. There is a
possibility that some members in the parish may sponsor youth to go, so
please let me know if you would like to go, and we'll go from there.

When: Leave About Noon on Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Life Teen Update

Hi everyone!,
Just a reminder, we will meet tomorrow night at 6:15pm. Also, we will
help with the Saint Vincent De Paul meal on January 2nd, as the other
times they already have enough volunteers. Finally, starting this
weekend there will be a fundraiser for REAP/Life Teen after all Masses.
We will be selling Mystic Monk coffee (ground or whole bean coffee in
12oz bags) and Outdoor silhouette Nativity Sets. I would appreciate
your help if you can assist after Mass. To support REAP we need to
raise $2,000 every year, so that is our goal.

Re: Trip this Saturday with LifeTeen

Hi everyone,
We will be going to visit the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in La Crosse
this Saturday, The final schedule is below, please wear comfortable
shoes, as we will be walking about a 1.5 miles total during the day. It
looks like we'll have a perfect Saturday, around 75 degrees with a 10%
chance of rain. Please bring a bible, journal, and rosary, as well as
a camera if you like.
To help cover gas, lunch, and snacks this will cost $15 per student.
Please pay on Saturday, or I can just deduct 15 REAP points from your
accounts. Right now there are 6 people going, Patrick Dolan, Yvette
Fernandez and her three girls, and myself. there is one more seat in
my van, so if you know someone else to bring along let me know.
Please bring money for the gift shop or for votive candles if you would
like to. Please meet me at the Sacred Heart parking lot at 7:15am this
Saturday morning. Also, take a look at the requirements for a Plenary

Life Teen will resume on Wednesday September 19th

Hello everyone,
Life Teen will be taking a late summer break, and will resume on
September 19th, the first day of Religious Education. There were some
time conflicts with multiple Life Teen members which led to this
decision, but thank you for the commitment which allowed us to meet
most of the summer.

Life Teen will not be meeting weekly again until September 19th,

However, please contact David Alcott if you are interested in attending
Leaven2Heaven, "Walk in the Reign" on Saturday August 25th, a one day
youth rally featuring Jon Leonetti, a national Catholic Speaker and music
by Traditional Division. It will be held at the Holy Cross Diocesan

Volunteer Opportunities to serve community meals

Hi, Some of you have been asking for volunteer hours and we are beginning to plan for community service hous for our Confirmation program and want to work with our Social Justice Committees from both parishes to help them out. The following dates (see attachment)  are available for assisting with serving meals sponsored by Sacred Heart & Corpus Christi parishes at St. Vincent de Paul and Samaritan House.  Mark your calendars and let me know if you are interested in assiting with any of these great opportunities to serve those in need.  Blessings,

Hi, Some of you have been asking for volunteer hours and we are
beginning to plan for community service hous for our Confirmation
program and want to work with our Social Justice Committees from both
parishes to help them out. The following dates (see attachment) are
available for assisting with serving meals sponsored by Sacred Heart &
Corpus Christi parishes at St. Vincent de Paul and Samaritan House.

Life Teen Wednesday and Totus Tuus next week....

Hi everyone, Sorry for the confusion last week, when there is another cancellation I will call as well as email you. By the way, you can always check our blog at http://shcclifeteen.blogspot.com/ all of the group emails are automatically posted to the blog, so you can always check there as well. Life Teen will be meet this Wednesday at 6:15pm, and we will continue the T3 Timeline series. This Sunday July 29th Totus Tuus will start, and I will be attending all of the evening sessions, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm Totus Tuus will replace Life Teen on August 1st, since it is at the same time and has the same focus. The sessions for grades 7 through 12 are from July 29th through August 2nd, every evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This will be a powerful and rewarding experience of faith, and there is free food, so you should definitely go. :-) Let me know if you need a registration form, there is no cost. God Bless, Dave

Life Teen update: Meet at St. Vinny's this Wednesday

Hello everyone, Hope you are having a good summer and staying cool! This Wednesday we will be helping serve the free community meal at St. Vincent de Paul. Please meet at 3:30pm in the meeting room at St. Vincent de Paul in Marshfield, and look for Deacon Ray Draeger. He will help get you started. We will be helping set up, serve, and clean up after the meal. This event will go until 7p.m., but if you can only help part of the time, that is okay too. Life Teen update

Hi everyone, There will be an amazing summer youth program later this summer called Totus Tuus, it is a summer day camp for youth grades 1 through 12. There will be two tracks, a track for grades 1-6 from 7/30 to 8/3, from 9am to 2:30pm. The other track is for grades 7-12, from 7/29 to 8/2. Life Teen and WMD's (Weapons of Mosquito Destruction)

Hi everyone, Tonight in Life Teen we talked about ideas for future changes/improvements to Life Teen. I opened by explaining the idea of a "Third Alternative" (from the book by Stephen Covey). In Africa, there has been a long controversy over the use of DDT (a pesticide) to kill Malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Malaria kills about 1 million Africans every year. DDT is controversial because it is harmful to the environment, and can cause cancer. To further complicate the issue, some mosquitoes are developing resistance to DDT. This is a good example of a long, unresolved, two-alternative problem. Should DDT be used or not? Now for the Third Alternative. A diverse team of people came together to take a fresh look at the problem, and came up with a mosquito laser to shoot them out of the sky. A prototype has been built from parts ordered on Ebay, that electronically senses insects that pass through a perimeter fence, identifies the female mosquitoes by their wing frequency (only the females bite people), then zaps them with a laser (similar to the type used in Blu-Ray players) to kill them. What do mosquito lasers have to do with youth ministry? The third alternative is an option that sounds far-fetched and crazy at first, but can solve old problems with new creativity. For the last few decades, Catholic youth ministry has tried to engage teens with the Truth of Jesus Christ and the Church. The statistics are sobering, 85% of Confirmed Catholic Youth leave the Catholic Church by age 30. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing, and expecting different results. We must always strive to improve and change, and do our best to reach those 85%. So tonight with the group I explained that the current two alternatives for teens are to attend Life Teen on Wednesday night, or not attend. To look for a third alternative, we listed what God wants, what Teens want, and a list of ideas that might help accomplish some goals from the previous two lists. I am including what we came up with below. I am hoping we can talk through some of these new ideas in the future, so we can come up with something new and exciting, to solve an old problem. Please feel free to contribute whatever you like to any of the three lists.

Life Teen Wednesday night, Venture Crew update

Hi everyone,
Life Teen will be at the normal time tomorrow night, at 6:15pm, however
I will be speaking to the 7th grade class for 5-10 minutes about the
REAP program, but I should have everything set up for you, and should
be back by 6:25pm
Last weeks presentation on the Venture Crew program went well. The
students are very interested. In summary, the Venture Crew is under
the umbrella of the Boy Scouts, stresses faithfulness to God, and is
for both male and female students ages 14-18. Pat Guldan is starting a
group, which will for now just include students from St. Johns and
Sacred Heart/Corpus Christi. It will cost $15/year to start, and they
are planning on a monthly outdoors trip, usually on a weekend. Each
trip taken would have an additional cost, around $10 to $25. Please
let me know by email preferably if you would like your child to sign
up. There isn't an obligation to attend each event, and we are setting
this up as an optional component of Life Teen, to expand our offerings.
The weekly Wednesday meetings will not change. Just let me know if you
are interested, and I can get you the forms needed. The $15 is not an
issue, so if this is not in your budget, you will not have to pay that.
Just let me know and we can cover that cost. We can also assist with
the costs of the monthly trips, whatever it takes so we can have
maximum participation.
We also decided to continue our Wednesday meetings through the summer.
I hope this will work for you, and I'm looking forward to a great
summer. By the way, a week from tomorrow will be the roller skating
party at Melody Gardens, so we will meet there instead of Toeller Hall.

Life Teen parents invited tomorrow night...

Hi everyone!
I hope you are having a blessed Easter season. Tomorrow night we will
have a special presentation by Pat Guldan about the new "Venture Crew".
Pat has worked with the Boy Scouts in the past, and is now starting a
local group based in Marshfield that will organize day trips for
Catholic youth ages 14-18. For example, on 4/28 there is a planned
trip to Lambeau Field and the Hall of Fame. This will not replace Life
Teen, it is simply something I am looking into that we can do in
concert with Life Teen. As you know, we have a small group, which puts
limits on planning, trips, and activities. If we can attend the
Venture Club events, it will increase the pool of youth attending,
which will expand our possible trips/events. The events will probably
be once a month, and we will consider each offering on a case by case
basis.
I am interested in your input as well, so please attend tomorrow night
at our regular time (6:15pm) to see the presentation. Please feel free

Hi everyone!
Just a reminder, tonight we did not have Life Teen, but we will be
attending Holy Thursday Mass at 6pm @ Sacred Heart on April 5th
together. This is not a Holy Day of Obligation, but is still highly
recommended and an important day.
Our last three scheduled meetings after that are April 11th, 18th, and
25th. There will be a presentation on 4/11 about the new
"Venture Club", so I will give you more details on that later. Start
thinking about what you would like to do this Summer. Let me know if you
would like to still meet weekly in the Summer, or if you would prefer a
looser schedule of trips/events, or a combination of the two. Let me
know what you think.

Life Teen Update: Shadow Stations this Wed.

Hi everyone!
This Wednesday (3/28), rather than meeting at Sacred Heart at 6:15pm, we will meet at the Columbus High School gym at 6:15pm to see the Shadow Stations. They will probably last for about 45 minutes to an hour, so a safe pick up time would be around 7:30p.m. This drama will be presented by students from St. John's and Christ the King. Please join us for this important event. I will wait for you at the door of they gym, so we can sit together.
On April 4th there will be no Life Teen, but we will be attending Holy Thursday Mass at 6pm @ Sacred Heart on April 5th together. This is not a Holy Day of Obligation, but is still highly recommended and an important day.

Life Teen update, can you help with the St. Patrick's festival this weekend?

Hi everyone,
Just a reminder, that Mandy will be going into labor any day now, so
watch your email for Life Teen cancellations!

Also, this Saturday, March 17th from 4-7pm is the St. Patrick's Festival
at Sacred Heart. This is a fundraiser to raise money for Totus Tuus, a
Catholic Day-Camp for youth this summer. We are hoping to raise enough
money to make Totus Tuus free of charge.

The festival is this Saturday from 4-7 pm, so any help during this time
would be appreciated.

This Thursday we will be setting up at 6pm, decorating Toeller Hall and
making posters. Please meet in Toeller Hall Thursday at 6pm if you can
help. Please help either Thursday or Saturday if you can.

Right now Life Teen will still be held this Wednesday, but I will send out
an email if Mandy goes into labor. Please keep us in your prayers so this
will be a smooth delivery.

Also, I will be awarding REAP points to any student who helps
Thursday or Saturday.

Life Teen this Wednesday, and St. Patrick's Day Festival

Hi everyone,
This Wednesday for youth group we will first meet directly in the
Church for an opportunity for Confession/Reconciliation. If there is
time, we will return to the youth room for the remainder of the hour
and work on our B.I.B.L.E. T-shirts. Please bring any stencils or
ideas you have, I will have the blank shirts and fabric markers
ready. If we don't get to them this Wednesday we will continue the
following week.

On Saturday March 17th we are looking for helpers to help staff the St.
Patrick's Festival at Sacred Heart. Judy Gachnang is working hard and
taking the lead on this, to raise money for Totus Tuus, a powerful
summer camp to be held this summer for Sacred Heart and Corpus Christi,
led by College students. The festival is from 4-7pm on St. Patrick's
Day, which is a Saturday. I will award 2 points per hour to any
student who helps with this project. We will need to make posters,
laminate tickets, etc ahead of time and will have a work day at Judy's
house, and then the older students will run the carnival games on the
festival day. Judy is thinking of making T-shirts for the ones who want
to help, so she needs a count of who will help.

The St. Patrick's festival will have ham and turkey, dressing, potatoes
and gravy, salad bar, desserts, and hotdogs , maybe a chocolate fountain
We will have carnival games in the gym. Tickets are $7 sold after Mass
the week before and $8 at the door, $3 for children under 18, preschool
free. We will have a bake sale and religious items for sale as well.

Mission America

Totus Tuus



Totus Tuus is a summer Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship. Our week-long Parish Summer Catechetical Program and Summer Camps assist parents and parishes in the evangelizing and catechizing of their youth by supplementing the work they are already doing. The methodology, structure, content, and enthusiasm of Totus Tuus is concerned not only with teaching the faith, but also igniting the hearts of the team members and young people. The result has been the formation of young adults who continue to dedicate themselves to the Church’s mission of evangelization. The mission of Totus Tuus is to inspire in young people a true longing for holiness, a deep desire for daily conversion, and an openness to their vocation by constantly challenging them to give themselves entirely to Christ through Mary and by continually strengthening their prayer lives in imitation of Her.

Adventure Camp empowers teens to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today through daily Mass, exposure to different types of prayer and catechesis combined with group activities such as canoeing, rappelling, high ropes course, etc. Experiencing deeper conversion to Jesus Christ through developing a deeper spiritual life, the young people are called to greater participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community. The young people are also called to be witnesses, allowing their renewed faith to be contagious.





Leaven2Heaven

When: August 25, 2012

Who: All students entering grades 6-12 for the 2012-13 school year.

Where: Holy Cross Diocesan Center La Crosse, WI

Cost: $35 per person



Leaven2Heaven is a daylong rally to bring young people together to celebrate their Catholic faith. It is a great way to close out the summer and kick off the new school year right. Our keynote speaker will be Jon Leonetti. Jon gained national attention in 2009 while walking from California to New Jersey. Along the way he promoted prayer as a means of turning away from the empty promises of lust, fame, and greed to find life’s true satisfaction in our calling from Christ. Jon is married to his wife Teresa, he is a national Catholic speaker and radio host of “Leonetti in the Evening.” Traditional Division will provide the music for the day. Young Adult Camping Trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks

When: Saturday June 30 – Sunday July 8, 2012

Where: Theodore Roosevelt NP (the Badlands of ND), Glacier National Park (Montana), Banff & Jasper National Parks (Alberta, Canada), Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada)

Who: Young Adults from WI & MN, ages 18 – 39

How much: Approx. $300 for food, transportation & camping (non-refundable down payment of $50 due by March 25, 2012)

NOTE: the cost of this trip will be split equally between participants. This is an estimate based on experience, but will flux due to number of people, gas prices, etc.





NET Retreats

Who: All students who are currently in 6th-12th grade are invited to attend.

Where: Parishes and schools sign up for the date they would like the NET Team to come to their parish or school. Please call our office to discuss scheduling.

When: We are currently waiting to hear back from the NET Center as to when the NET Team will be in the Diocese of La Crosse. We are hoping for dates in October-Early November. We will let you know as soon as this has been finalized.

The purpose of NET Ministries is to challenge young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. 90 trained NET volunteers ages 18 to 28 are sent out in vans each year across the United States in teams of 10 to 12. These retreat teams share their faith during retreats and will encounter 60,000 youth. The parish teams focus on building up individual parishes from September to May . Each team invites all they meet to give their lives to the only One who can satisfy their hungry hearts - Jesus Christ.



NET Ministries is an international youth ministry organization, and it fulfills its mission by:

· Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ through a personal witness of faith

· Inviting young people to live for Christ

· Forming young people in Christian character through the study and practice of their faith

· Equipping youth workers and young adults with the ministry skills needed for evangelization.



Though varying in length, format, and theme, the retreats blend a fun, high-energy retreat experience with a straightforward Gospel presentation. Team members proclaim the Gospel through large group talks, small group discussions, music, drama, and relaying personal faith experiences. Each teen on retreat are given the opportunity to respond to Christ in prayer and/or through the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Reconciliation.





Immersion Retreat

When: November 9-11, 2012

Who: All students in grades 8-12

Where: Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells

Cost: TBD



The Immersion Retreat is a weekend retreat at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. The purpose of this retreat is to give young people the opportunity to understand that their relationship with Jesus Christ is to be center of their life; that growing in their faith is a lifelong process; and to encourage them to be active participants in the life of the parish to which they belong. This formation is needed as one of the biggest challenges we face is that young people tend to stop attending Mass and fall away from prayer after they are confirmed.



We have tentatively scheduled Doug Barry to be our keynote speaker. Doug Barry is the founder and director of the Catholic apostolate RADIX, as well as a husband and father. Since 1992 he has traveled throughout the United States along with journeying to several other countries, spreading and defending the Catholic faith. With a dynamic and explosive style Doug has spoken to thousands, young and old alike, through television, radio and live appearances. He is best known for his powerful one-man performance of the Passion of Christ, seen regularly on EWTN and other Christian channels throughout the world.

Pilgrimage for Life

The official date for the March for Life is Friday, January 25, 2013. The organizers of this event have stated that in 2013, the anniversary date of the Roe v. Wade decision will fall on Tuesday, the day following the public ceremonies marking the Presidential Inauguration. They were not able to secure an adequate number of hotel rooms early in the week, so that is why they have scheduled the March for Life on Friday, January 25, 2013. With this in mind, the travel dates for the Diocese of La Crosse will tentatively be scheduled for January 22-26, 2013.

Ash Wednesday this week, LifeTeen cancelled in observance...

Hello everyone,
Just a quick update, this Wednesday 2/22 is Ash Wednesday, Corpus
Christi and Sacred Heart each have a Mass at 8am, and Sacred Heart has
an additional Mass at 6pm.

Since Life Teen's normal time is 6:15pm,

**we will cancel it in observance of Ash Wednesday.**

We will resume the following week on Wednesday February 29th.

Please attend with your families if possible. Just as a reminder, below
is what the Church asks us to do on Ash Wednesday.


The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Ash Wednesday by calling
us to fast and abstain from meat. Catholics who are over the age of 18 and
under the age of 60 are required to fast, which means that they can eat
only one complete meal and two smaller ones during the day, with no food
in between. Catholics who are over the age of 14 are required to refrain
from eating any meat, or any food made with meat, on Ash Wednesday.

Have an excellent Lent, and take advantage of this time in increase your
self-discipline so you can follow Christ more carefully. Remember,
disciples are disciplined!

Snow Tubing Trip cancelled...

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your responses on this, but I don't think we will be able to
go this year due to schedule conflicts. We will look into this again
next winter.
