Fwd: Confirmation Photo

Hello newly confirmed Catholic students!
I am forwarding a group picture of your Confirmation.  Please enjoy the picture, and remember to pray daily (morning is best), attend Mass weekly without fail, and go to Confession regularly.  Statistically, 85% of you will stop going to Mass over the next five years.  Remember to stay close to Christ and His Church, and you won't become a statistic.

Remember that missing Mass without a valid reason is a grave sin.  Please see the Catechism references below, paragraphs 2180 and 2181

2180  The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely: "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass."117 "The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of the preceding day."118 (2042, 1389)

2181  The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.

These are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit you received last month on September 20th.

Wisdom

  • The gift of wisdom enlightens the spirit to feel God's presence in the everyday events of ordinary life.

Understanding

  • The Holy Spirit grants understanding as a guide in a Catholic's daily life and decisions. Confirmed Catholics have access to a greater capacity for understanding through prayer, discernment and the sacraments.

Right judgment

  • This gift heightens the sense of right and wrong. It also gives young Catholics the strength, through prayer and devotion, to reject what is wrong and choose what is right.

Courage

  • The Holy Spirit endows newly confirmed members of the faith with greater courage to live out their faith in the face of ridicule and hardship.

Knowledge

  • Reading scripture and studying the life of Jesus Christ can be more fruitful once a Catholic has been given the special gift of knowledge through Confirmation. Study of Scripture and the tradition of the Catholic faith are also more effective under the light of the Holy Spirit.

Reverence

  • This gift is also called "piety." It opens the newly confirmed to a greater capacity for respect and trust in God and the Church. Like all gifts of the Holy Spirit, reverence must be fostered, encouraged and practiced vigorously to reach its full potential.

Wonder and awe

  • This gift is also called "fear of the Lord." It opens the eyes of the heart to see God's glory and holiness more fully. Recognizing God's power, perfection and goodness, a spiritual person can only respond and with wonder, awe and fear. This gift unites a soul more honestly with the God of creation.

These are the Baptismal promises you recently renewed last month on September 20th. Keep your promises!

Renewal of Baptismal Promises
After the homily the candidates stand and the bishop questions them:
Bishop: Do you reject Satan and all his works and all his empty promises?
Candidates: I do.
Bishop: Do you believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
Candidates: I do.
Bishop: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
Candidates: I do.
Bishop: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who came upon the apostles at Pentecost and today is given to you sacramentally in confirmation?
Candidates: I do.
Bishop: Do you believe in the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?
Candidates: I do.
Bishop: This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
All present: Amen.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns about our faith, and you are in my prayers.
       God Bless,
           David Alcott

Confirmation Class updates

Hi everyone!
We had a good class tonight, thank you all for being so attentive.  For homework I assigned the crossword puzzle at the end of chapter 1.  Please bring your bibles next week.  Here are some upcoming events, as soon as this weekend.  Please let me know what you are planning on attending so I can expect you.

This weekend on Saturday, October 18th we are doing the Rotary Winter Wonderland Lights Setup followed by a Disc Golf game, remember you will need service hours for Confirmation, so this is a good opportunity!
ALL TEENS are invited to HELP set up for Rotary WInter Wonderland 8AM-Noon at Wildwood Park and then PLAY Frisbee Golf at Hefko Park Noon-2PM.  Lunch is included. LOTS of help is needed which can turn into LOTS of fun!

We are also looking for help with the Oktoberfest meal on Saturday, October 25th from 4-7pm to raise money for the 9th graders to attend the Immersion retreat in the Dells or the Pilgrimage for Life in Washington DC.  We need lots of help, please send me a message if you can help with this important event!  Thank you to Nathan who already volunteered.

The Immersion Retreat
The Immersion Retreat is a 2 day event at the Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells designed to help teens grow in their Faith.  85% of Catholic teens who are confirmed stop attending Church within five years, so we are doing all we can to reverse that trend.  The event involves Music led by "Traditional Division", talks by keynote speaker Mike Patin, testimonies, small group discussions, Eucharistic Adoration, Mass, Confession,  and time in the indoor waterpark.  We will leave by bus at 6:20am on November 8th, and return the evening of Sunday November 9th.  The full cost is $150, but we are fundraising to offset the cost with the OktoberFest dinner.  Please reply to this email to let me know if you are interested in sending your son or daughter to this amazing retreat.  We are making every effort to make sure that anyone who wants to go can attend, but we have to plan the transportation and turn in the paperwork soon.  I sent home a flyer and Release Form tonight.  There is more information in the following link.

The Pilgrimage for Life is an event planned to help young people attend the March for Life in Washington D.C. The trip is from January 20th - 24th, 2015, and includes transportation, a sweatshirt, and sightseeing in our Nation's Capital. The March for Life is meant to send the message that every human being is precious from conception to natural death, and is planned around the anniversary of the Supreme Court Case Roe vs. Wade in 1973.  This is a wonderful event, and many young people attend multiple years, and form lasting friendships.  More information is in the link.  The cost is $330, again it would be offset by fundraising.  This is a great opportunity, please think and pray about attending.
